Leah Zehnder

My love of equines started out at an early age and increased as I became involved in Pony Club, which is where I found my passion for the equine sport of mounted games. My parents supported my passions and allowed me to join Mounted Games Across America (MGAA) and United States Mounted Games Association (USMGA) where I had various opportunities to compete internationally. Mounted Games has been the cornerstone in my outlook on the equine athlete.

After high school I attended the University of Kentucky where I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Equine Science and Management. Throughout my time at University of Kentucky I worked at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute as a Veterinary Technician in the Medicine Department. Working at Hagyard offered me the opportunity to assist with the medical care of many high profile patients.

My husband is currently pursing a career in the Air Force, which has currently placed us in Oklahoma City, OK where I work at Oakridge Equine Hospital. We have lived in multiple states including Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, and Florida. While living in Alabama I had the pleasure of working at the equine hospital at Auburn University in the Internal Medicine department. The cumulation of my experiences allow me to understand the equine athlete from a unique perspective.

Moving to North Carolina allowed me to pursue my goal of become a certified equine massage therapist and bodyworker. I use various techniques of massage therapy with the horse to relieve muscle strain and stiffness,  remove tension, and increase blood flow to speed healing of tissue and to aid in faster healing after an injury. I provide bodywork sessions at many different equine facilities and service a variety of disciplines. My goal is to aid the horse and rider in accomplishing their goals as a team through increased connection, balance, flexibility, and range of motion.
